Hematology is a branch of laboratory medicine that studies blood, blood-forming organs, and disorders related to the hematopoietic system. This science includes blood cell analysis, hemopoiesis, hemostasis function, and detection of hematological abnormalities related to cardiovascular and systemic diseases. Hematology is an important basis for diagnosis, therapeutic monitoring and clinical research.

The Hematology Laboratory in the Medical Laboratory Technology Department of the Ministry of Health Surabaya Polytechnic is designed as a modern and integrated practical learning center. Equipped with an automatic hematology analyzer, digital microscope, and manual testing equipment, this laboratory supports students to:

  • Perform routine hematology examinations (CBC, Hb, hematocrit, erythrocyte index).

  • Carrying out hemostasis tests (PT, aPTT, fibrinogen).

  • Analyzing blood cell morphology through smear preparations.

  • Implement internal and external quality control systems according to ISO 15189 standards.

🌟 Advantages of the Hematology Laboratory

  • Complete Facilities: Manual and automatic equipment that meets clinical laboratory standards.

  • Integration of Theory & Practice: Students not only learn hematology concepts, but also apply them directly to clinical cases.

  • Quality & Safety: Implementation of biosafety, laboratory K3, and strict quality assurance.

  • Competency Development: Students are trained to interpret results, validate and communicate scientific evidence-based laboratory medicine.

The learning atmosphere in the Hematology Laboratory emphasizes student-centered learning with a guided practicum approach, case discussions, simulations, and project-based learning. Students actively interact with lecturers and instructors, work in teams, and are trained to think critically and analytically. A conducive, disciplined and professional laboratory environment supports the creation of a fun and challenging learning experience.
